Well, sometimes it is much better to book a head, it depends on few things:
1. When and where are you going? Is it off or on season, is there a holiday this time of the year, are there many students around this time of the year etc...
2. What kind of vacation are you up to? Luxurious, moderate or low budget?!

I think you'd feel more comfortable to be on the safe side and book at least some of it in advance, yet my experience tells it can be perfectly done independently.

You are welcome to ask me questions, see I've been many times to India and I know it quite well.

the best thing you should do is look for a very good offer online. There are so many travel agency who offer a very good packages which you will surely enjoy.

WEll depends on what type of holiday!! I am from Fiji and I know that it is nice around this time of the year so let me know, I could give u good tips on where to go and help with ur holiday! I go every year coz u could just about find any packaged holidays at any price...so yeah!!
